Cohiba 55th Anniversary Auction
Cohiba, the most emblematic brand of Habanos, commemorates its 55th anniversary in La Habana, Cuba, on 7-9 September 2022.
For the three-day celebration, Habanos S.A. will offer a programme of activities where Cohiba will be the star and which culminates in a very special auction. The proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Cuban public heathcare system.
One of the humidors in the auction pays tribute to Cohiba, the world-renowned Habanos brand, and the story of its success. It holds 550 Habanos from all the Lineas of this illustrious brand.
Another humidor is in collaboration with the premium brand Rare Champagne. The deluxe humidor holds one of Cohiba’s latest vitola: Ambar, as well as a select bottle of Champagne Rare Millésime 1988.
Every single Habano contained inside these two humidors is totally hand-made with long filler by the best torcedores at El Laguito Factory.
Humidor Cohiba 55 Anniversario
Described as a cave-shaped humidor, the Cohiba 55 Anniversario was designed by Nous Group and executed by Humidores Habana, which has been creating humidors for Habanos S.A. for more than two decades. Elegant in shape, this exclusive humidor is handcrafted with superior materials.
Measuring 170cm (67 inches) tall by 130cm (51.2 inches) wide and 100cm (39.4 inches) in depth, its design features veneers of precious woods, with mother-of-pearl embedded along the base, and the Cohiba 55th Anniversary logo in gold crowned with Swarovski crystals on the central body.
The interior is made from okoume and mahogany, with trays to hold the 550 cigars that come with the humidor and represent the success story of Cohiba.
An internal humidification system and high-precision analogue hygrometers ensure that the cigars are kept at optimal conditions.
As for the cigars inside, the list is extensive and spans the majority of the Cohiba portfolio, including regular productions, limited editions, and a handful of cigars that are not sold, such as the Cohiba Gran Corona.
Humidor Rare Le Rituel & Cohiba Ambar
The second item up for bid will be the first edition of Rare Le Rituel, described as a tasting cabinet combining a bottle of Champagne Rare Millésime 1988 and 44 of the Cohiba Ambar.
The exquisite humidor measures 32 cm (12.6 inches) tall, 32 cm (12.6 inches) wide, and 64 cm (35.2 inches) deep.
The luxurious black-coloured humidor is made of sycamore – the tree of the pharaohs, okoume, gold, silver and mother-of-pearl.
The designs on the sides and inner lid draw on the sun and moon for inspiration.
The humidor was designed by Elie Bleu, the French company that has been making humidors since 1976.
Inside the humidor is the bottle of Champagne, 44 of the Cohiba Ambar cigar, an ashtray, cigar cutter and cedar sheets.
Rare Millesime 1988 is the fruit of a year’s hard work attaining a full-bodied and thrilling champagne.
The Cohiba Ambar is a new vitola not just for the Cohiba brand but for the entire Habanos S.A. portfolio.
It measures 5 1/5 (132mm) x 53, a robusto extra vitola known as Placeres.
The Cohiba Ambar has not been released commercially yet and little is known about it, other than that it will be sold in boxes of 10.
In the auction catalogue, Habanos S.A. describes it as having strength that goes from medium to full, offering a strong tobacco flavour from the first puff, with a drier note developing into the second third. The final third is described as “unctuous, tannic and spongy,” while preserving the dry note from earlier.
In addition, the successful bid will be taking home 48 more bottles of Champagne, 24 bottles each of Rare Millésime 1998 and Rare Millésime 2008.
Of the 10 handcrafted humidors, Limited Edition. No. 1 will be auctioned at the Cohiba 55th Anniversary event, with the remaining nine to be produced after the auction upon request.
